After a Breakout Year in the KHL, Max Comtois Is Attracting NHL Attention
The 2024-25 season looked a bit different for former Anaheim Ducks forward Maxime Comtois. The now 26-year-old spent this past season playing in the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) for the Moscow Dynamo after going unclaimed as an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA) in the NHL.
Comtois was drafted by the Anaheim Ducks in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in the second round at 50th overall. He most notably had a breakout year during the 2020-21 shortened NHL season – scoring 33 points in only 55 games with 16 goals and 17 assists. At the time, Comtois was producing at a pace that outperformed any other Ducks player, with Rickard Rakell being the next closest at 28 points in 52 games. Unfortunately these numbers wouldn't last long as the following two seasons they ultimately started to decline. This marked the beginning of what is now the latest chapter in Comtois’ professional hockey career.

This past KHL season, Comtois has proven that he still has what it takes to be in the NHL. He posted 50 points in 62 games consisting of 29 goals and 21 assists. Most spectators are keeping an eye on a possible NHL return. This return may come sooner than later as Daria Tuboltseva from RG Media has reported that Comtois currently has an outstanding offer with the Detroit Redwings among possible others. Will we see Comtois return to the NHL next season or does he still have more to prove in the KHL?
