On the first day of the 2025 NHL Free Agency (July 1st) many signings have already taken place. One of which involves the talented Mikael Granlund, who has signed a 3-year x 7-million dollar contract deal to join the Anaheim Ducks.
Granlund is a 5’10, 33-year old from Oulu, Finland. This left-shot forward weighs in at 185 pounds. He was originally drafted by the Minnesota Wild in the first-round at 9th overall in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.
In his most recent season, Granlund scored 66 points through 83 games, consisting of 22 goals and 44 assists with the San Jose Sharks and Dallas Stars combined. In this past season he also finished with an impressive 0.80 point per game average. Granlund has also scored sixty (60) or more points in three (3) of his last four (4) seasons.
Granlund is the first free agent signing of 2025 for the Ducks. With names like Nikolaj Ehlers, Andrew Mangiapane, and Victor Olofsson still on the board, will the Ducks take another swing at a big name to help inch them towards a successful 2025-26 NHL season?
