Currently, a very familiar face can be seen working for the San Jose Sharks organization. Former and recently retired Anaheim Duck, Ryan Miller has picked up a new role as goalie scout and goaltending development coach. Miller grew up in the city of Santa Clara, California, just 16 minutes down the road from San Jose. Early before the Sharks team was established, he and his brother would go door to door having people sign a petition for an NHL expansion team to come to San Jose.

Miller says the scope of his new job will entail “a bit of everything” relating to the prospects that he will be scouting and the people he will be working with on behalf of the Sharks franchise. Following his NHL retirement in 2021 he was looking to settle down, however he spoke with Mike Grier - Sharks General Manager and they came up with a way for Miller to meaningfully contribute to the organization at a high level through his newly acquired roles (SJHN Via Youtube).

Miller played for the Anaheim Ducks for a total of four (4) seasons from 2017 to 2021 and retired at the conclusion of the 2021 NHL season. He skated in a career total of 796 NHL games dating back to 2002 having played with a handful of other teams including the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues, and Vancouver Canucks. Miller finished his playing career with 391 wins, 44 shutouts and a cumulative save percentage of .914.

At present, Miller is now the second most winningest NHL American-born goaltender in history following Johnathan Quick. Miller was inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame in 2022. Some of his greatest achievements include the Hobey Baker Award, Vezina Trophy, and the 2010 Olympics Silver Medal. Having the statistics and hardware to prove his success, Miller is up there in discussions as one of the greatest American-born Goaltenders of all time.
