The Anaheim Ducks and the Philadelphia Flyers have agreed on a deal to send center/forward Trevor Zegras to Philadelphia in exchange for Ryan Poehling, a 2025 second round pick and a 2026 fourth round pick.
Zegras has been with the Ducks since they drafted him ninth overall in the 2019 NHL Draft. He has been one of the Ducks best players since his debut in the 2020-2021 season, recording over 60 points in both his sophomore and junior year. Though he has struggled as of late to stay on the ice, only playing in 88 of a possible 164, his earlier production shows that he still has potential to be a star in the league.
Poehling was drafted by the Montreal Canadiens in the first round of the 2017 NHL Draft, but did not have the greatest of production during his time in Canada, only recording 22 points in three seasons. After spending one year in Pittsburgh, Poehling has had his two most productive years in Philadelphia, recording over 30 points this last season.
Zegras has one more year left on a three-year, $17.25 million dollar deal he previously signed and is set to be a restricted free agent next season.
Zegras joins a Philadelphia team that boasts some impressive young talent, including Owen Tippett, Tyson Foerster and Matvei Michkov. The latter of which was named to an all-rookie team last season, and finished No. 4 in Calder voting.
